Why is Improvisation So Difficult?

Abstract

This article demonstrates that students' abilities and attitudes, fluency in basic musical skills, knowledge of music history and analysis, and personal taste all figure and inform one another in the art of improvisation, and may be elegantly integrated in one's teaching approach.
